Aquinas, Melrose-Mindoro to Clash in Division 4 Final

A pair of undefeated teams will match-up in the Division 4 championship game.

Top-seeded Aquinas (27-0) remained undefeat by cruising to a 75-38 victory over Crandon in the Division 4 semifinals at the State Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday evening at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

The Blugolds were powered by a balanced scoring attack with five players in double figures. Lexi Donarski and Taylor Theusch led the way with 13 points. Madessa Collins and Kyah Steiner scored 12, and Courtney Becker chipped in with 10. Donarki also contributed with a team-high six assists and five steals.

Aquinas shot 50 percent from the field in the game and forced 29 Crandon turnovers, which led to a 36-8 advantage in points off turnovers

Alexa Meilitz led the Cardinals with 12 points and three steals, and Tabitha Renkas had seven points and six rebounds.

The Blugolds advance to the championship final for the second straight season after finishing runner-up a year ago. Crandon (22-3) finishes its season with the school’s first-ever State tournament appearance.

Second-seeded Melrose-Mindoro (27-0) kept its perfect season intact with a 64-30 win over Manitowoc Lutheran in its Division 4 semifinal game Thursday evening.

The Mustangs led from start to finish with a 14-0 run to begin the game. They led 41-11 at halftime in large part because of their defensive pressure, forcing 17 turnovers that led to a commanding a  21-0 advantage in points off turnovers in the half.

The Lancers were unable to cut into the Mustangs’ lead in the second half and shot 26 percent from the floor in the game.

Emily Herzberg led all scorers with 20 points for Melrose-Mindoro. Calette Lockington added 12 points, and Mesa Byom chipped in with 11 points to go with her game-high 12 rebounds.

Grace Melson and Amanda Pautz led the Lancers with six points apiece.

Melrose-Mindoro advances to the title game in its first appearance in the State tournament, and Manitowoc Lutheran (21-5) completes its season with its first experience at State.
