Boys Golf Champions Crowned in Three Divisions

Three teams and three individuals were crowned champions at the 91st State Boys Golf Championship Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis.

Homestead led in the team competition throughout much of the two-day meet, only to be overtaken by Notre Dame midway through the second round. However, the Highlanders regained a slim advantage in the final two holes and hung on to win its third State Championship with a score of 618. Notre Dame finished with a score of 619. Senior Kaylor Steger of Oak Creek was the medalist with a 2-under par 142 for the 36-hole tournament. Juniors Bennett Hutson of Onalaska and Ricky Kuiper of Racine Case tied for second, each shooting a 143.

In Division 2, Catholic Memorial won its second straight team title shooting a four-player, 36-hole score of 607, which was seven strokes better than runner-up Edgewood with 614. Sheboygan Falls finished a distance third by shooting a 647. Sophomore Chris Colla of Winnebago Lutheran earned medalist honors by firing a 4-under par 140. Sophomore Matt Bachmann of Sheboygan Falls was runner-up with a 144.

Lancaster won the Division 3 team title with a 36-hole, four-player score of 627. Osseo-Farichild finished eight strokes back in second place at 650. Racine St. Catherine’s was third at 651. Sophomore Thomas Longbella of McDonell Central won medalist honors with a 2-under par 142. Senior Zach Hentrich of Lancaster finished second, seven strokes off the leader with a 149.
