Green Bay, Wis. – Four boys and girls teams advanced to the semifinals following quarterfinal action of the 2019 State Volleyball Tournament at the Resch Center Thursday.
Top-seeded Arrowhead (39-3) overcame a loss in the first set to go on to a 22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 27-25 over Sun Prairie (41-8) in its Division 1 girls quarterfinal. Aubrey Hamilton led the Warhawks’ 56-kill attack with a match-high 26 kills. Arrowhead also served 14 aces, which ranks second-most in a Division 1 State Tournament four-set match.
Fourth-seeded and defending champion Burlington (38-4) will face Arrowhead in tomorrow’s semifinals after earning a hard-fought, five-set victory over Union Grove (41-6) 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 25-12, 15-10. Three attackers led the Demons’ offense with double-figures in kills, which contributed to their 59-46 advantage in the kills category.
Second-seeded Oconomowoc (38-3) held on to defeated Kettle Moraine (29-14) in five sets 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 14-25, 15-9. The Raccoons were a point away from sweeping the Lasers in three sets, but needed a deciding game five to earn the victory. They scored the first eight points of that game to take control of the set.
Third-seeded River Falls (37-6) will square off with Oconomowoc in a rematch of last year’s semifinal, which was set up following the Wildcats’ 25-21, 25-12, 25-23 sweep of Appleton North. They recorded a .243 hitting percentage in the match and outscored the Lightning in kills by a 40-29 margin.

Top-seeded Kimberly (33-2) advances to Friday’s boys semifinals after sweeping Kettle Moraine (14-17) 25-12, 25-19, 25-9. The Papermakers hit for a .324 attack percentage and recorded 12 blocks on defense to limit the Lasers to a -.074 hitting percentage in the match.
The Papermakers will play fifth-seeded Brookfield East (23-10) in the semifinals. The Patriots defeated Waukesha West (36-6) by scores of 25-13, 20-25, 25-23, 25-14 in their quarterfinal. Three players recorded double digits in kills to lead the balanced attack, and the front-line defense produced 16 blocks to pace the Patriots.
Defending champion Germantown (27-5), the second seed, advances to the semifinals following a 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 win over Franklin (16-13). The Warhawks sizzled on the offensive attack with a .329 kill percentage, while the defense limited the Sabers to a -.015 attack percentage in the match.
Third-seeded Marquette (21-6) advances to the semifinals to play the Warhawks with its 25-9, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Racine Horlick. The Hilltoppers benefited from an efficient hitting attacking, posting a .333 kill percentage. The Rebels fell victim in the service category, committing 10 serve errors.
