Kaukauna, Amery and Fennimore Win Team Wrestling Titles

MADISON, Wis. – Three champions were crowned at the 2022 State Team Wrestling Tournament at the UW Field House Saturday.

In Division 1, Kaukauna capped an undefeated dual season at 13-0 with a 35-24 victory over Holmen (19-6) in the title bout. The Galloping Ghosts win their second consecutive title and the program’s sixth State team championship.

Kaukauna won nine of the 14 bouts in the match. Lucas Peters posted a pin in his match at the 120-pound weight class, and Drew Wendzicki recorded a fall in 55 seconds at 182 to lead the Galloping Ghosts. In addition, Judah Hammen had a 16-1 technical fall in his 170-pound match. Holmen was led by Parker Kratochvill with a pin at 145 in 3:13 and Branson Beers, who had a pin at 152 in 1:32.

Amery (9-1) also claimed back-to-back titles, winning the Division 2 championship with a 36-30 triumph over Luxemburg-Casco (17-2) in the title match after winning the school’s first title last season.

The Warriors won seven of the 14 matches with four of those coming by fall. Eddie Simes posted his fall in 1:30 at 160; Grant Cook won by pin at 182 in 57 seconds; Kale Hopke pinned his opponent in 39 seconds at 195, and Koy Hopke’s fall was in 27 seconds at 220. In addition, Robert Beese recorded a win by disqualification at 285. Luxemburg-Casco was led by Easton Worachek, who won by fall in 1:00 at 120; Caleb Delebreau, who recorded a pin at 132 in 56 seconds; and Trace Schoenebeck, who took 1:01 to pin his opponent at 170.

Fennimore (16-2) won the Division 3 championship for the third time with a 37-23 decision over Coleman (17-2).

The Golden Eagles won nine matches, including the last four bouts of the match to overcome a 23-20 deficit. Cameron Winkers recorded the only fall of the match to lead Fennimore, pinning his opponent at 220 in 2:44. Amryn Nutter recorded a 17-1 technical fall at 106, and Brett Birchman added a 21-2 technical fall in the final bout of the match at 126. Coleman was led with pins by Peter Kuchta in 4:52 at 182 and Cole Klimek in 3:14 at 195.
