Muskego and Xavier were crowned champions of the 2020 State Girls Team Tournaments Saturday.
Last year’s runner-up and second-seeded Muskego (14-3) edged top-seeded Divine Savior Holy Angels (14-3) 4-3 in the Division 1 title match at the Lake Geneva Tennis Club.
The Warriors won three of the four singles matches. Elizabeth Sobieski, the Division 1 singles champion, defeated Carolyn Schaefer in the #1 singles flight to propel the Muskego to the team title. Christian Pan and Emily Pan both won their matches at #2 and #3 singles. Maddie Guillermo recorded the only singles victory for the Dashers at the #4 flight.
Divine Savior Holy Angels gained victories in two of the three doubles matches. Emily Martin and Julia Cyganiak won their #2 doubles match, and the tandem of Molly Jex and Lailah Young scored a win at the #3 slot. Lauren Sobieski and Megan Lambrecht-Scasny contributed to the victory by recording a triumph at the #1 doubles position.
The Warriors advanced to the championship match following a 4-3 win over Oconomowoc in the semifinals, and the Dashers earned a 7-0 shutout over Hudson in the their semfinal match.
Muskego captures the crown in their second State appearance, and Divine Savior Holy Angels finishes runner-up in its ninth appearance.
Xavier (9-0) won the Division 2 championship with a 5-2 victory over top-seeded and former defending champion Catholic Memorial (12-9) at the Sports Core in Kohler, Wis.
The Hawks won three of the four singles flights. Erika Curtin, who finished runner-up at State in singles play last week won her match at the #1 singles position, and Marie Anne Knabe and Maggie McGinnis won their singles matches at #2 and #3 singles. The Crusaders’ singles winner was Grace Dorow at the #4 position.
Xavier won two of the three doubles matches. Kylie McCormick and Bella Taleon, who were the State doubles runner-up, were victorious at the #1 flight. Carly Bomier and Mary Van Stratton added a win at the #2 position. Monika Multhauf and Kallyn Sauer accounted for the one doubles victory for the Crusaders at the #3 position.
Xavier advanced to the championship match with a 7-0 victory over Amery in the semifinals, and the Crusaders defeated Edgewood 5-2 to earn their berth in the title match.
The Hawks win the title in their first appearance in the State team tournament, and the Crusaders finish runner-up in their third appearance.
