MADISON, Wis. – Fourth-seeded New Glarus (26-2) won the Division 4 championship with a 67-62 victory over Lourdes Academy in the 2019 State Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Kohl Center.
The game was closely contested throughout with the largest lead by any team being five points by New Glarus. The contest featured 17 lead changes and 12 ties. The Glarner Knights led most of the game, including a 37-35 advantage at the half.
The Knights had an opportunity to take advantage of inconsistent free throw shooting in the final minutes of the game by the Glarner Knights; however, they failed to score a field goal in the final 3:15 of the second half.
Jaden Kreklow led all scorers with 22 points to go with a team-high four assists for the Glarner Knights. Mason Martinson added 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Zach Feller also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Preston Ruedinger led four Knights scoring in double figures with 17 points and handed out a game-high five assists. Hayden Jones scored 16 points with a game-high 10 boards. Benny Huizenga added 13 points, and Henry Noone chipped in with 11.
The Glarner Knights win their first State championship in their fourth appearance in the tournament, and their first since 1932. Lourdes Academy (26-2) finishes runner-up in its fourth State experience.
