MADISON, Wis. – Two divisions of singles players and doubles teams were crowned champions at the 2024 State Boys Tennis Tournament played at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Saturday.
Junior CJ Kryscio of Menomonee Falls, the second seed, won the Division 1 singles championship with a 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-7 victory over eighth-seeded Nolan Shaub, a junior from Union Grove, in title match. Kryscio improved his record this season to 30-2 after advancing to the third round at State last season.
In Division 1 doubles play, the fourth-seeded team of seniors Ryan Gould and Aidan Ferber of Marquette defeated the sixth-seeded tandem of senior Aaditya Tiwari and junior Jacob Smith of Brookfield Central 0-6, 6-3, 10-7 to win the championship. Gould and Ferber improved their record to 23-4 this season. Ferber advanced to the quarterfinals a year ago and to the third round in 2022 with different partners.
In Division 2, junior Adrian Yin of Brookfield Academy, the top seed in the bracket, won the singles championship. He downed the second seed, sophomore Alex Thomas of Notre Dame by scores of 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 in the championship match to earn the gold medal. Yin improved his record to 22-5 this year. The four-time qualifier also finished runner-up last season and in 2021.
In Division 2 doubles play, the top-seeded tandem of senior Nate Carson and sophomore Finn Milleman of Catholic Memorial defeated the second-seeded duo of seniors Matt Gugluizza and Aidan Burich of Notre Dame 7-6(6), 6-4 in the title match. Carson, a four-time qualifier, finished sixth in 2021 and 2022 with different partners, Milleman had gained State experience qualifying in singles play last season.
The State Boys Team Tennis Tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 7-8 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
