SPASH Downs Germantown for Division 1 Title

Stevens Point (27-1) spoiled Germantown’s (27-1) run of perfection and history with a 67-51 win over the Warhawks in the Division 1 final Saturday.

The Panthers ended the Warhawks three-year reign atop of Division 1 and prevent Germantown from becoming the third program in tournament history to win four straight titles after Dominican became the second earlier in Division 4.

Sam Hauser scorched the nets in the first quarter to account for all the Panthers’ 16 points, hitting all five of his shots, including four three-pointers. He also added a pair of free throws.

Stevens Point led throughout most of the first half and led by as many as 12 before taking a 30-22 lead into the locker room at the half. The Warhawks could get no closer than six points in the second half. The Panther expanded its lead to 13 by the end of the third quarter and led by as many as 21 in the final period to seal the outcome.

Hauser and Trevor Anderson led the Panther with 25 points apiece. Hauser also added a game-high 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. The Warhawks were led by Juwan McCloud with 15 points.

The Panthers converted 18 three-pointers in the tournament, which ties a Division 1 record for the two-game format. Stevens Point has now won four State championships. The three previous titles came in 1926, 1954 and 1994.
