THE MEET: The 96th Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Golf Championships will be held Monday and Tuesday, June 6-7 on the Meadows Course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis. Competition will begin at 7 a.m. on both days. Tee time assignments for Sunday practice and for Monday's play are posted on the boys golf page of the WIAA website.
TICKET INFORMATION: Ticket prices for the State Boys Golf Championships are $9 per day plus online fees, and they are available to be purchased on-line on the WIAA website through GoFan, the WIAA ticketing partner, at: https://gofan.co/app/school/WIAAWI?activity=Golf.
STATE MEET STREAMED LIVE: The ninth and 18th holes of the WIAA State Girls Golf Championships will be streamed live without subscription on the NFHS Network at nfhsnetwork.com/associations/wiaa-wi or WIAA.tv.
THE FORMAT: The competition features 16 teams and 24 individual qualifiers in Division 1, and eight teams and 12 individuals in Divisions 2 and 3. Weather permitting, all competitors will play 36 holes, including 18 holes on each day. The lowest scores from the first day will have the later tee times Tuesday.
THE FIELD: In Division 1, the field consists of the top two teams from each of the eight sectionals. In Divisions 2 and 3, the top two teams from each of the four sectionals qualify. The top three individuals, who are not members of a qualifying team in each sectional, also qualify for the meet.
LAST TIME: Kettle Moraine won the Division 1 team championship by shooting a four-player, 36-hole score of 598, which was 19 strokes better than runner-up Homestead at 617. Jacob Beckman of Middleton earned individual medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 140, which was 4-under-par at Wild Rock Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells. Edgewood won the Division 2 title for the fourth straight season, not including the 2020 season that was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Crusaders finished with a four-player score of 637. Lakeland placed second at 654. Ethan Arndt of Edgewood earned medalist honors by firing a 147, which was 3-over-par at Trappers Turn in Wisconsin Dells. Kohler won the Division 3 title by scoring a 659, and Durand was runner-up with a 686. Noah Kirsch of Lancaster won the individual title with a score of 147, which is 3-over-par at Trappers Turn.
CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES: Madison West holds the record for the most team golf titles with 15. Osseo-Fairchild is next in line with nine, followed by Arrowhead with eight and Racine Park with seven. Madison West has also produced the most individual champions with nine. Arrowhead (2007-2010), Edgewood (2017-19, 2021) and St. Mary’s Springs (2015-18) are the only programs to have won four straight team titles, and there are five other schools that have won three straight championships. Racine did it in 1923-25; Madison West won three straight titles twice, in 1934-36 and 1960-62; Osseo-Fairchild accomplished the feat in 1994-96; and Middleton did it from 1997-99. Bill Heim of Green Bay Preble and Jeremy Lyons of Glenwood City are the only individuals to win medalist honors three times. Heim won from 1986-88 and Lyons from 1997-99.
TEAMS COMPETING: The schools qualifying for the State meet in Division 1 are Ashwaubenon, Brookfield East, De Pere, DeForest, Eau Claire Memorial, Fond du Lac, Kettle Moraine, Lakeland, Madison Memorial, Marquette, Homestead, Janesville Craig, Middleton, Sheboygan North, Union Grove and Wauwatosa East/West. Teams qualifying in Division 2 are Amery, Antigo, Berlin, Edgerton, Edgewood, University School of Milwaukee, Winneconne and Xavier. Qualifying teams in Division 3 are Cambridge, Glenwood City, Kohler, Ladysmith, Lancaster, Marathon, Mineral Point and Wabeno/Laona.
DIVISION 1 INDIVIDUAL QUALIFIERS: The individual qualifiers in Division 1 are senior Peter Haideman of Arrowhead, junior Rasmus Madsen of Appleton North, junior Kai Wong of Beloit Memorial, juniors Victor Ignatowski and Zach Koch of Franklin, junior Cassie Psuik of Greenfield, senior Michael Addie of Hamilton, sophomore Matthew Zagar of Hartford, senior Brennan Dirks of Holmen, senior Joe Bartels of Hudson, sophomore Aiden Cudney of Kimberly, sophomore Will Arkin of Madison La Follette, sophomore Brett Wieland of Milton, senior John Callahan of Neenah, senior Ryan Darling of Notre Dame, freshman Aiden Parent of Oconomowoc, junior Matthew Marsollek and senior Trey Timm of River Falls, senior Will Summers of Slinger, junior Zack Zimmerman of Verona, freshmen Jackson Heath and Robbie Meyers of Waterford, senior Max Brud of Waunakee and junior Dylan Bruni of Westosha Central.
DIVISION 2 INDIVIDUAL QUALIFIERS: The individual qualifiers in Division 2 are senior Sam Dobbins of Aquinas, sophomore Nolan Oliver of Brodhead, junior Thanathat Sukprasert of Dominican, junior Ethan Oricchio of Ellsworth, junior Pierce Zimmel of Lomira, junior Ben Biskupski of McDonell Catholic/Regis, senior Trent Meyer of Northwestern, sophomore Justin Kaczynski of St. Thomas More, junior Andrew Kettle of Sheboygan Falls, senior Grant Marsich of Wisconsin Dells, senior Calvin Scheurer of Wittenberg-Birnamwood and junior Grant Delsart of Wrightstown.
DIVISION 3 INDIVIDUAL QUALIFIERS: The Division 3 individual qualifiers are freshman Bryce Killoren of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, junior Peyton Krause of Crandon, junior Jacob Ganga of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, junior Dominic Croci of Hurley, sophomore Cooper McLaughlin of Lourdes Academy/Valley Christian, senior Nolan John of Neillsville, junior Conner Krach of Newman Catholic, senior Trey Oswald of Parkview, senior Joe Hueckman of Prentice, senior Jonah Curtis of Princeton/Green Lake, junior Spencer Lynch of St. Mary Catholic and sophomore Kaiden Bailey of St. Thomas Aquinas.
TOP RETURNERS: In Division 1, junior Mason Schmidtke of Sheboygan North and senior Max Brud of Waunakee have the distinction of being the top finishers from last season returning to this year’s championships. They placed in a tie for fifth, four strokes in back of the medalist. Senior Trent Meyer of Northwestern is the top returning player to the Division 2 field this year after placing runner-up a year ago. In Division 3, senior Noah Kirsch of Lancaster looks to defend the crown he earned last year. He would be the first player to with back-to-back Division 3 titles since Jake Nelson of Ladysmith did it in 2008-09.
