STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The State Boys Individual Tennis Tournament produced singles and doubles champions in two Divisions at two different venues Saturday. Division 1 was held at the Menard Tennis Center in Eau Claire, Wis., and Division 2 was played at the Sports Core in Kohler, Wis.
Top-seeded Martin Blagoev of Kenosha Indian Trail won the singles title in Division 1 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over third-seeded Noah Viste of Wauwatosa East in the championship match. The three-time qualifier finishes the season undefeated at 24-0 and wins the first singles title for the Hawks.
In Division 1 doubles play, the second-seeded tandem of Henry Irwin and Reed Scullen of Brookfield East defeated the top-seeded team of Sam Kredell and Nick Tiahnybik of Arrowhead 6-2, 6-1. The duo improves their record to 23-1, winning the Spartans’ third doubles championship in program history.
Top-seeded Alex Sviatoslavsky of Edgewood wins the Division 2 singles championship to improve on his runner-up finish in 2019, which is the last time the tournament was held with the 2020 tournament canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic. He defeated second-seeded Adrian Yin of Brookfield Academy 6-1, 6-0. Sviatoslavsky finishes with a 26-0 record this season in winning the Crusaders’ second WIAA singles title.
Drew Buckholdt and Pranav Gogineni of Brookfield Academy, the top-seeded doubles team in the Division 2 bracket, defeated second-seeded Andrew Bechthold and Shaan Sharma of the University School of Milwaukee 6-2, 6-4 in the title match. The duo improves to 13-5 on the season to win the Blue Knights’ third doubles title.
The State Boys Team Tennis Tournament will be held Friday-Saturday, June 25-26. The Division 1 tournament will again be held at the Menard Tennis Center, and the Division 2 title will be held at the Sports Core.
