THE MEET: The 101st Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys State Individual Tennis Championships will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 30-June 1 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. Action will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and will resume at 9 a.m. Friday and at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

LAST YEAR: Top-seeded Oscar Corwin of Brookfield East won the singles title in Division 1 with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 victory over second-seeded Nicholas Balthazor of De Pere in the championship match. In Division 1 doubles play, the fourth-seeded tandem of Lincoln Marshall and Daniel Egelhoff of Marquette defeated the third-seeded team of Chatton and Keenan Haws of Cedarburg 7-6(5), 6-4 in the final. Top-seeded Max Watchmaker of University School of Milwaukee won the Division 2 singles championship for the second year in a row by defeating Adrian Yin of Brookfield Academy 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. The unseeded tandem of Peyton Zeiler and Garv Bhasin of Brookfield Academy downed Vibhu Guda and Sanjit Madireddi of Brookfield Academy, the fourth-seeded doubles team in the Division 2 bracket, by scores of 2-6, 6-1, 10-5 in the title match.
DIVISION 1 SINGLES OUTLOOK: Defending champion Oscar Corwin of Brookfield East is the top seed in the bracket. The senior four-time qualifier has posted a 23-1 record this season. He placed sixth at State in 2022 after advancing to the third round in the bracket in 2021. Junior CJ Kryscio of Menomonee Falls was issued the #2 seed. He has posted a 25-2 record this season after advancing to the third round last year. In addition, he qualified and advanced to the third round in the doubles bracket back in 2022. Junior Ethan Bo of Middleton is seeded third in the bracket with a 20-3 record. He placed third last season after a runner-up finish in 2022. Sophomore Alexander Bo, Ethan’s brother, received the #4 seed with a 25-3 record after he advanced to the third round in last year’s State Tournament. Junior Aiden Meixl of Kimberly has qualified for the third time. He is seeded fifth with a 26-3 record entering play this week. Meixl qualified in 2022 and advanced to the third round last season. Junior Graham Benish of Homestead is the sixth seed with a 23-3 record. He advanced to the third round two seasons ago in 2022. Senior Kristian Blagoev of Kenosha Indian Trail is seeded seventh with a 13-1 record. He returns to the field again after advancing to the second round two years ago. Blagoev advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated from title contention in 2021. The #8 seed is junior Nolan Shaub of Union Grove. He has compiled a 25-2 record this season after finishing fifth last year and advancing to the second round in 2022. Senior Surya Arvind of Brookfield Central is a four-time qualifier. He is seeded ninth with a 19-8 mark this season. Arvind has advanced to the quarterfinals the past two seasons after qualifying and advancing to the second round in 2021. Senior Tyler Schneider of Whitefish Bay, the 10th seed, will compete in his fourth State Tournament. He enters play with a 24-5 record after advancing to the second round last year and qualifying in 2022 and 2021. Since 2001, the top seed in the bracket has won 14 of the 22 singles titles during that span, and the lowest seed to win the championship since then was a fourth seed.
DIVISION 1 DOUBLES OUTLOOK: The senior tandem of Michael Stuckslager and Patrick Teuteberg of Marquette are the top seed in the doubles bracket with an undefeated 19-0 record this season. They both will experience the State Individual Tournament for the first time. Seniors Owen Plate and Jaren Baltus of Plymouth are seeded #2 with an unblemished record of 29-0. Plate advanced to the second round in singles play in Division 2 last season, and Baltus qualified with a different partner a year ago, which resulted in a first-round defeat. Senior Ayden Knuth and junior Cohen Newberg of Manitowoc Lincoln are seeded third with a 29-1 mark. The tandem is back after qualifying the past two seasons and falling in their opening-round matches. The Marquette senior tandem of Ryan Gould and Aidan Ferber are seeded fourth with an 18-4 record. Ferber qualified with a different partner last season and advanced to the quarterfinals and then to the third round with another partner in 2022. Senior Grant Meyers and sophomore Jake Zheng of Brookfield East are back in the tournament for the second straight year. They have compiled a 20-6 record after advancing to the second round a year ago. Senior Aaditya Tiwari and junior Jacob Smith of Brookfield Central are seeded #6 with a 21-4 record. Tiwari placed sixth with a different partner a year ago, and he won his first-round singles match in 2022 before being ousted from title contention. Smith qualified in the single bracket last season and fell in his opening-round match. The brother tandem of senior Shayne Reinders and junior Tyler Reinders of Arrowhead form the #7 doubles team with a 20-4 record. Shane advanced to the third round last season with a different partner, and Tyler qualified and lost his opening-round match in singles play last year. Senior lya Rice and junior Bodi Russo of Middleton are seeded #8 with a 20-5 record. With different partners, Rice has advanced to the second round the past two seasons. Senior Dawson Froemming and junior Keenan Haws of Cedarburg are seeded ninth with a 26-4 record. Haws was half the brother duo that finished runner-up last year after qualifying with a different partner and advancing to the second round in 2022. Froemming qualified for singles play last season and won his first-round match. Since 2001, the top seed in the bracket has won 12 of the 22 doubles titles during that span, and the lowest seed to win the championship since then has been a fourth seed.
DIVISION 2 SINGLES OUTLOOK: Senior Adrian Yin of Brookfield Academy is the top seed after his runner-up finish last season. The four-time qualifier also finished runner-up in 2021. In addition, he qualified in 2022, but defaulted in his second-round match after a first-round bye. Yin enters action with an 18-5 record this season. Sophomore Alex Thomas of Notre Dame is seeded #2 with a 24-4 record, making his first appearance in the State Individual Tournament. Junior Anderson Fortney of Aquinas is seeded third with a 22-1 record. He placed third in 2023 and gained State experience qualifying in 2022, falling in his first-round match. Senior Hayden Latus of Catholic Memorial is seeded fourth with a 23-3 tally. The four-time qualifier finished fourth last season after winning his first match at State in 2021 and 2022 before falling from title contention in the second round. Junior Kyle Hehli of West Salem is seeded fifth with a 26-1 mark. He placed fifth last year, and he is half the duo that won the doubles championship in 2022. Freshman Oliver Milleman of Catholic Memorial is the #6 seed. He has compiled a 25-1 record. Senior Joshua Horak of Xavier sports a 16-5 record as the seventh seed in the bracket. He advanced to the third round last year and qualified in 2022, but he was unable to advance out of the first round. Sophomore Oliver Boyd from University School of Milwaukee is the eighth seed with a record of 15-8. He qualified last year and lost his opening-round match. Since 2001, the top seed in the bracket has won 16 of the 22 singles titles during that span, and the lowest seed to win the championship since then was a sixth seed.
DIVISION 2 DOUBLES OUTLOOK: The #1 seed in the bracket is senior Nate Carson and sophomore Finn Milleman of Catholic Memorial with a 23-3 record. Carson is a four-time qualifier. He advanced to the second round last season with a different partner after they placed sixth in 2022. Carson also placed sixth at State with another partner in 2021. Milleman qualified as a singles player last season and fell in his first-round match. Seniors Matt Gugluizza and Aidan Burich of Notre Dame are seeded #2 with a 26-4 record. Burich has qualified the past two seasons with a different partner in Division 1, advancing to the second round in 2023 and falling in the first round in 2022. Gugluizza is a four-time State qualifier. He advanced to the second round in Division 1 singles play in 2021 and last year, and to the third round in 2022. Juniors Miles Gourlay and Jack Gilpin of University School of Milwaukee comprise the #2 seed in the bracket with a 13-10 record. They placed fifth last season. Seniors Nick Bittner and Nate Hall of Xavier are seeded #4 with a 16-5 record. They were the top seed in the bracket last year and finished third after placing fourth in 2022. Bittner also earned State experience in 2021 by qualifying with a different partner and winning a first-round match. Senior Grant Bergstrom and junior Wesley Auth of St. Mary Catholic form the #5 seeded tandem with a 22-5 record. Bergstrom has gained State experience the past two seasons with different partners. In 2022, his duo advanced to the fourth round before being eliminated from title contention, and last year, his tandem fell in the first round. Auth finished sixth last year in singles play and fifth in 2022. Senior Vibhu Guda and Peyton Zeiler of Brookfield Academy are seeded sixth with an 11-9 record. Zeiler is half the tandem that captured the championship a year ago after qualifying in 2022. Guda finished runner-up with different partners in each of the last two seasons. Juniors Luke Yoon and Vishal Luthra of New Berlin Eisenhower are seeded seventh with a 17-3 record this season. Yoon finished fourth last season with a different partner after qualifying with another partner in 2022, which resulted in a loss in the first round. Senior Zach Weiner and junior Sanjit Madireddi of Brookfield Academy are the #8 seed with a 9-1 mark. Madireddi teamed with Guda last season to finish runner-up after qualifying with Zeiler in 2022, which resulted in a loss in the first round. Since 2001, the top seed in the bracket has won 14 of the 22 doubles titles during that span, and an unseeded tandem has won the championship twice during that span.
