LAST YEAR:  Divine Savior Holy Angels won the Division 1 championship by blanking D.C. Everest 1-0  in the final. Waunakee captured the Division 2 crown by edging Waukesha West 2-1 in the championship game. In Division 3, Catholic Memorial won its third straight title, defeating Mount Horeb for the third year in a row by a 2-0 margin, and Assumption was the champion in Division 4 by virtue of a  2-1 victory over New Holstein in the championship game.

DIVISION 1 NOTES:  Of the four teams that qualified last season, the only program not returning to the tournament field is defending champion Divine Savior Holy Angels. Last year’s runner-up D.C. Everest qualifies for the second consecutive season after making its first appearance last year. The Evergreens advance this spring after a 3-0 shutout over De Pere in the Stevens Point Sectional final. They are the champions of the Wisconsin Valley Conference this year. Kettle Moraine is making its second straight appearance at State and its second overall as well. The Lasers fell in the semifinals a year ago, and they have qualified this season as champions of the Middleton Sectional following a 4-1 win over Middleton in the final. They finished third in the Classic Eight Conference. Muskego has also qualified for the second year in a row and for the second time overall. The Warriors gained a berth in the final field of four with a 2-1 victory over Racine Horlick in the final of the Kenosha Indian Trail  Sectional. They placed fourth in the Classic Eight Conference this season. Menomonee Falls is a first-time qualifier for the State Girls Soccer Tournament. The Indians clinched a berth in the State semifinals with 2-1 triumph over Homestead in the Brookfield Central Sectional final. They placed fifth in the Greater Metro Conference standings this season.

DIVISION 2 NOTES:  Whitefish Bay is making its membership-leading 18th appearance in the State Tournament and its first since 2011. The Blue Dukes have also won seven championships, which is tied with Catholic Memorial for the most among all programs. Three of their titles have come in Division 2 (1998-2000) and four came prior to expanding the tournament to more than one division (1983-85, 1994). They have also claimed a trio of runner-up finishes (1997, 2001, 2005). The Blue Dukes defeated Greendale 1-0 in the final of the Waukesha West Sectional, and they placed third in the North Shore Conference this spring. Green Bay Southwest is back in the State Tournament for the first time since 2003 and for the fourth time overall. All of the Fighting Trojans’ prior appearances have come in Division 1. The most notable was an advance to the semifinals in 2001. To continue playing for a State title this season, they needed a 4-3 shootout to get past Pewaukee following a 1-1 tie in the sectional final held at Green Bay Southwest. The Fighting Trojans placed seventh in the standings of the Fox River Classic Conference this season. Rhinelander will make its second appearance in the State Tournament after qualifying for the first time last year, which resulted in a loss in the semifinals to eventual champion Waunakee. The Hodags got past River Falls 2-1 in the final of the Wausau East Sectional this past weekend. They are the champions of the Great Northern Conference this year. Oregon makes its inaugural appearance in the State Tournament following its 7-0 win over Waterford in the Waunakee Sectional final. The Panthers are the champions of the South Division of the Badger Conference this season.

DIVISION 3 NOTES:  Three of the same four teams that qualified for the Division 2 tournament field in 2013 and comprised the Division 3 bracket last season are back for another go-round. Catholic Memorial has won three straight championships, two in Division 2 in 2012 and 2013, and last year in Division 3. The Crusaders make their 10th straight appearance in the State Tournament and their 11th overall. Their impressive streak of success includes seven championships and two runner-up finishes over the span of the last 11 years, having won championships in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013 and again last year. They beat Grafton 4-1 in the sectional final they hosted to advance to the semifinals. They finished fifth in the Classic Eight Conference this season. Mount Horeb has finished runner-up to Catholic Memorial in Division 2 in 2012 and 2013 and again in Division 3 last season,  which accounts for each of the Vikings’ three previous State appearances. They return to the State semifinals following their 5-1 win over Edgewood in the sectional final held at Mount Horeb. They finished third in the North Division of the Badger Conference this season. Notre Dame qualifies for the ninth time overall and for the first time since the 2012 season. The Tritons have been State runners-up three times and are still in pursuit of their first title. They fell in the Division 2 finals in 2002, 2003 and 2011. They are the victors of the Plymouth Sectional with a 3-0 shutout over Xavier in the final. The Tritons finished third in the Fox River Classic Conference this spring. Ashland is celebrating its third straight appearance at State and its fourth overall. The Oredockers are attempting to advance beyond the semifinals for the first time. They downed New London 6-1 in the final of the Rice Lake Sectional to secure their berth in the semifinals. The Oredockers placed atop the standings in the Northern Lights Conference this spring.

DIVISION 4 NOTES: Last year’s runner-up New Holstein returns to the tournament field for the second straight season and for the sixth time overall. The Huskies won the Division 3 championship in 2010 and also finished runner-up in 2008. They advance from the sectional final they hosted with a 1-0 blanking of Ozaukee. The Huskies finished second in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference. Categorically, it will be the second appearance in the State Tournament by the Lake Country Lutheran/University Lake School co-op. The two-school co-op won the Division 3 championship the only other time it qualified for the tournament in 2012. The past two seasons, the co-op included Trinity Academy`. On each of those occasions the co-op fell in the semifinals. This year, the Lightning advances to State with a 1-0 win over Lake Mills in the Central Wisconsin Christian Sectional final. They are 2015 champions of the Midwest Classic Conference. Aquinas is making its fifth appearance at State and its first since 2010. The Blugolds most notable experience in the State Tournament was their Division 3 runner-up finish in 2005. They have been eliminated from title contention in the semifinals in each of their other three previous experiences. After winning the championship in the Mississippi Valley Conference this spring, the Blugolds advanced through the Wausau West Sectional, which culminated with a 2-0 win over defending champion Assumption in the final. Brookfield Academy is experiencing qualifying for the State for the first time following its 1-0 victory over Racine St. Catherine’s in the final of The Prairie School Sectional. The Blue Knights finished second to the Lake Country Lutheran/University Lake School co-op in the Midwest Classic Conference during the regular season.
