LAST YEAR:  Cedarburg won the Division 1 championship by defeating Waukesha West 4-1 in the final. In Division 2, Catholic Memorial won its second straight  title, defeating Mount Horeb for the second year in a row with a 3-0 decision, and Ozaukee won the Division 3 crown by topping The Prairie School 3-1 in the championship game.

DIVISION 1 NOTES:  Divine Savior Holy Angels qualifies for the State Tournament for the seventh time overall and for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. The Dashers won back-to-back championships in 2008-09. This season, they are the champions in Greater Metro Conference. They advance to the State semifinals through the Whitefish Bay Sectional with 2-1 win over Germantown in the final. The other three qualifiers in Division 1 will all be experiencing the State Tournament for the first time. D.C.  Everest’s advance to the State semifinals came virtue of a 2-0 win over Appleton North in the sectional hosted by the Evergreens. They are the champions of the Wisconsin Valley Conference this spring. Kettle Moraine is the representative from the Kettle Moraine sectional following the Lasers’ 5-2 win over Madison West in the sectional final. They finished second in the Classic Eight Conference this season behind Waukesha West, which finished runner-up last season and has qualified this year in Division 2. Muskego advances to State from the Kenosha Indian Trail Sectional via a 3-1 shootout following a 2-2 tie with Kenosha Tremper in the sectional final. The Warriors placed fifth in the Classic Eight Conference. They look to equal  the success the boys soccer program had last fall by winning the Division 1 title.

DIVISION 2 NOTES:  Last season’s Division 1 champion Cedarburg has qualified in Division 2 this year. The Bulldogs are making the school’s fifth appearance in the State Tournament. Prior to winning the title last year, the Bulldogs’ most notable State experiences were runner-up finishes in 1994 and 2004. They qualify this season with a 1-0 win over De Pere in the final of the sectional hosted at Cedarburg. They finished tied for second in the North Shore Conference standings this year. Waukesha West,  the Division 1 runner-up in two of the last three seasons including last season, has qualified in Division 2. The Wolverines are making their eighth straight appearance and their ninth overall. They also notched runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2011. They are the champions of the Classic Eight Conference this year, and they are the qualifier out of the Whitefish Bay Sectional with a 5-1 win over New Berlin Eisenhower in the final. Waunakee was a 2-1 winner over Oregon in the final of the sectional it hosted to earn its second berth in  the State Tournament. The first was back in 2008 when the Warriors finished runner-up in Division 1. They finished first in the North Division of the Badger Conference this season. Rhinelander will make its first appearance in the State Tournament. The Hodags blanked River Falls 4-0 in the final of the sectional final held at Wausau East. They are the champions of the Great Northern Conference in 2014.

DIVISION 3 NOTES: The same four teams that qualified in Division 2 last season comprise the Division 3 field with the new four-division format. Two-time Division 2 defending champion Catholic Memorial makes its 10th State appearance overall and its ninth straight. The Crusaders’ impressive streak of success includes six championships and two runner-up finishes over the span of the last 10 years, having won championships in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012 and again last year. They beat Grafton 2-1 in the Pewaukee Sectional final to advance to the semifinals. They finished tied for second in the Classic Eight Conference this season with Kettle Moraine behind league champion Waukesha West. Mount Horeb has finished runner-up to Catholic Memorial in Division 2 the last two seasons, which accounts for each of its two previous State appearances. The Vikings return to the State semifinals following their 3-0 win over Monroe in the Evansville Sectional final. They finished third in the North Division of the Badger Conference this season, which was won by Division 2 qualifier Waunakee. Xavier returns to the tournament for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons, failing only to qualify in 2009 over that span. The Hawks have won three State championships. They won the Division 3 title in 2004 and Division 2 crowns in 2005 and 2008. This year, they defeated Notre Dame 2-0 in the West De Pere Sectional final to qualify again. The Hawks won the Eastern Valley Conference championship this season. Ashland downed Northland Pines 2-1 in its sectional final played at Chippewa Falls to earn its third berth in the State semifinals. Before last season, the Oredockers only other appearance at State resulted in a loss in the semifinals in 2009. They are the champions of the Northern Lights Conference this spring.

DIVISION 4 NOTES: New Holstein returns to the tournament field for the fifth time overall and for the first time since the second of back-to-back appearances in 2010-11. The experience in 2010 resulted in winning the Division 3 championship. The Huskies also played in the championship final in 2008 and finished runner-up. They advance from the sectional final they hosted with a 1-0, two overtime thriller over Howards Grove. The Huskies finished second in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference behind Plymouth. Categorically, it will be the second appearance in the State Tournament by the co-op consisting of the Lake Country Lutheran, University Lake School and Trinity. The program lost in the semifinals last season. However, the two-school co-op of Lake Country Lutheran/University Lake School won the Division 3 championship the only time it qualified for the tournament in 2012. This year, the co-op advances to State with a 6-0 win over Wisconsin Heights in the Ozaukee Sectional final. The Lightning are this season’s champions of the Midwest Classic Conference. Racine St. Catherine’s makes its fourth appearance at State and the first since 2007 when the Angels finished runner-up in Division 3. They won the South Division title of the Metro Conference this year, and they are the champions of The Prairie School Sectional following a 2-1 win over The Prairie School in the final. Assumption is back in the State Tournament for the first time since its only other experience in 2011, which resulted in a runner-up finish in Division 3. The Royals advanced through the Oshkosh West Sectional, which culminated with a 3-2 win over St. Mary Central in the final. The Royals play an independent schedule during the regular season and are not affiliated with a conference in soccer.
