WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. – Boys and girls teams and individuals earned titles in three divisions at the 2022 State Cross Country Championships at The Ridges Golf Course Saturday.
Muskego was the Division 1 girls team champion with a five-runner score of 45 to record the program’s third State championship. Slinger was a distance second with 110 points.
Junior Sara Mlodik of D.C. Everest was the girls individual champion in Division 1, pacing the field in 18:06.6 on the 5-kilometer course after finishing 12th in 2021. Senior Summer Schuster of Slinger was second with a time of 18:09.9 after not qualifying last year following a 15th-place finish in 2020.
Stevens Point raced to the boys Division 1 team championship for the 12th time in program history after placing fourth last season. The Panthers finished with a five-runner score of 39 points, and Oconomowoc finished second at 86 points following a 10th-place performance in 2021.
Sophomore Manny Putz of Onalaska earned individual medalist honors after placing seventh last season. He completed the 5-kilometer in 15:26.7. Senior Zachariah Vance of Oconomowoc finished on the heels of Putz in second with a time of 15:26.9 after placing 23rd a year ago.
Xavier captured its first girls team championship, winning the Division 2 crown with 81 points, and former defending champion Dodgeville-Mineral Point finished in second place with a score of 124.
Sophomore Faith Wehrman of New Berlin Eisenhower ran to the Division 2 individual championship in a time of 18:14.8 after placing runner-up a year ago. Her time is the fifth-best time recorded in Division 2 at the State Meet. Junior Nora Gremban of Northland Pines finished second in a time of 18:24.6, improving on her third-place finish last season
Notre Dame won its first State boys team championship, capturing the Division 2 title with 81 points after finishing runner-up in three of the last four years. Lakeside Lutheran finished runner-up with 115 points, moving up from a 10th-place standing last year.
Senior Joseph Stoddard of Mount Horeb ran to the Division 2 boys individual championship, improving 26 places from last year’s 27th-place finish. He completed the course in a time of 15:54.7. Senior Eli Boppart of Mauston placed runner-up for the second straight season, finishing in a time of 16:03.7. He also finished seventh in 2020.
In Division 3, Kohler won its first boys State championship with a team score of 94. Pacelli finished in second place with 102 points after placing seventh in 2021.
Senior Wesley Pronschinske of Cochrane-Fountain City ran to the boys Division 3 individual crown with a time of 16:08.9 after finishing fifth last year and eighth in 2020. JJ Williams of Glenwood City finished runner-up in a time of 16:17.0 to improve on his 12th-place finish in 2021.
Cochrane-Fountain City won the Division 3 girls team championship with a score of 132 to win the program’s fourth title. Lourdes Academy ran to a runner-up finish in the team standings with 138 points.
Freshman Abby Duellman of Cochrane-Fountain City earned individual medalist honors by winning in a time of 18:58.1, which is the fourth-fastest Division 3 time in State Meet history. Sophomore Nora Jillson of Boscobel, who placed sixth a year ago, was runner-up with a time of 19:08.4.
