Sportsmanship Plus - Girls Basketball

Milton @ Evansville
Dec. 16, 2019

My crew just wanted to commend the Evansville and Milton girls' basketball teams on a great display of sportsmanship during last night’s game. Andie Varsho, AD at Evansville, greeted us and escorted us to the locker room. Coaches Tony Wiemiller (Evansville) and Stacy Skemp (Milton) were a pleasure to work with. The girls played hard and fought until the last buzzer. There was no complaining or arguing of calls. The student section for Evansville displayed the true characteristics of what educational-based athletics is all about! Both fan sections displayed the ideals of great sportsmanship as well. It was a true honor to work such a well-played game last night. Thank you to both teams and best of luck the rest of the season!

Chetek-Weyerhaeuser@ Luck
Dec. 10, 2019

I would like to compliment Luck and Chetek-Weyerhaeuser for the great sportsmanship shown during the game we had the privilege of officiating. It was all coaches and players that helped each other up off the floor, complimenting opposing team members on good shots, The coaches, Chad and Han, would ask questions on calls and thanked us for our rule interputations during the game. It was overall a great game played by all. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser and Luck should be very proud of their coaches and young men for the great sportsmanship displayed during this game.

Sportsmanship Plus - Wrestling

Lomira @ Omro
Dec. 12, 2019

From the moment I had contact with athletes and coaches from both teams, I was shown nothing but respect. Both teams were quiet and attentive during weigh-ins and my pre-meet talks. It was evident that respect and good sportsmanship start from the top on both teams. Both coaches referred to me as sir throughout the night and answer questions with “yes/no sir.” Nearly all the athletes from both teams continued this practice consistently as well. Omro recognized their youth wrestlers that night. During the pre-match face-off, Omro wrestlers came out onto the mat with a youth wrestler to meet in the center of the mat. After shaking hands with the opponents, the Lomira wrestlers also shook hands with the youth wrestler which made their night. Everyone wrestled hard. Irrespective if they won or lost, everyone showed good sportsmanship throughout the dual. It was an honor and a joy to officiate this dual and it was made that way by the sportsmanship of both teams.

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau @ Luther
Dec. 6, 2019

From the pregame meeting with the players, to meeting the coaches at the end of the warm up period and throughout the entire contest, both teams (players and coaches) exhibited a high degree of good sportsmanship. Ryan Svendsen, the Luther head coach, didn't question anything during the contest. Louis Hurd, the Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau head coach, was very respectful when he questioned something (which occurred only twice). When an issue arose with the G-E-T assistant coach, Coach Hurd acted quickly, professionally and respectfully to resolve the problem. Overall, my crew was very pleased and impressed. The fans demonstrated good sportsmanship as well. It was a positive environment and a fun contest to officiate. It was easily one of the most enjoyable contests I've ever officiated and a real pleasure. I've officiated at Luther previously, and I would eagerly welcome officiating there again!

I had the pleasure of working the game. Both teams demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout the entire game. Both teams skated hard and played well. The game was decided five minutes into the first overtime. Both teams should be commended on how well they played.
