Eight-Player Football Jamboree in Schofield Saturday

The first eight-player football jamboree is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3 at D.C. Everest's Stiehm Stadium. Here are the match-ups, which feature the top four seeded eligible teams from both of the two regions.

10 a.m. - #4 Bruce (4-4) vs. #4 Stockbridge (3-5)

  1 p.m. - #3 New Auburn (6-2) vs. #3 Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah (4-4)

  4 p.m. - #2 Luck (7-2) vs. #2 Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran (7-1)

  7 p.m. - #1 Prairie Farm (7-0) vs. #1 Abundant Life/St. Ambrose (8-0)

Tickets
$4 for one game  (Ages 6 and Up) or a $10 for all games. Ages 5 and under will be admitted free. 

The return of the reduced-player offering is intended to assist smaller schools maintain football in their schools and communities.

The 16 programs playing eight-player schedules this season are Abundant Life/St. Ambrose, Birchwood, Bruce, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, Luck, New Auburn, Northwood/Solon Springs, Prairie Farm, Oneida Nation, Siren, Stockbridge, Three Lakes, Valley Christian, Wayland Academy and Winter.

Schools with a three-year enrollment average of 200 or less are eligible for the end-of-the-season jamboree. All but three schools playing an eight-player schedule this season qualifies for the jamboree. Northwood/Solon Springs, Three Lakes and Wayland Academy each have three-year enrollment averages over 200.

The WIAA sponsored reduced-player football prior to the advent of the football playoff system in 1976. There were 78 schools that fielded reduced-player squads in the late 1950s, 72 of which were eight-player teams and six that were six-player. However, that number dwindled to just a few programs by 1969.
