KOHLER, Wis. – The alternate season State Girls Golf Championships produced a three-time individual champion and a team champion at the Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run Tuesday.
Senior Jo Baranczyk of Bay Port won her third gold medal by scoring a 1-under-par 143 during the 36-hole tournament. She wins the alternate season title after winning the Division 1 championship in 2018 and 2019 and finishing fifth in 2017 during the traditional fall seasons. Baranczyk becomes just the fourth golfer in WIAA girls golf history to win three State titles.
Junior Ellie Frisch of Middleton finished second, shooting +10 with a score of 154 for the tournament following an 18th-place finish in Division 1 in 2019. Seniors Jolie Guyette of De Pere and Caylie Kotlowski of Stoughton finished in a tie for third place at +11 with scores of 155. Kotlowski improved on her 34th-place finish in 2019 and fourth-place finish in 2018.
Middleton hung on to win the four-team tournament with what is essentially its second straight team title, having won the Division 1 title during the traditional fall season in 2019. It’s the fourth championship won overall by the Cardinals. They also captured the Division 1 team crown in 2009 and 2015.
The Cardinals led in the team standings throughout the two-day tournament and compiled a five-player, 64-over-par score of 640. Middleton led by double-digit strokes on the second day before Bay Port mounted a comeback that fell a stroke short, finishing with a 641. Sheboygan North/South finished third with a score of 679, and Janesville Craig was fourth at 687.
