Waukesha South/Mukwonago; Shorewood Win Girls Swim Title

Waukesha South/Mukwonago repeated as Division 1 girls swimming and diving champions by edging Arrowhead for the second straight season. Waukesha South/Mukwonago scored 279 points, six more than runner-up Arrowhead.

Shorewood captured it sixth State Girls Swimming and Diving team championship and its first since 2003 by scoring 255 points, which is 38 points more than two-time defending champion Milton, which finished second with 217 points.

Junior Abby Jagdfeld led Waukesha South/Mukwonago to the title with a pair of victories, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a record time of 1:47.67 and capturing the title in the 100 freestyle with a pace of 50.54. She was also a member of the winning 400 freestyle. Freshman Beata Nelson of Verona/Mount Horeb made an immediate impression on the State swimming records by winning 50 freesyle and 100 backstroke in record times of 22.97 and 53.73, respectively.
 

Senior Rachel Stave of Whitnall wins her third straight diving title with a score of 497.30, which sets a new division 3 record in the event. In addition, junior Bridgette Alexander of Milton celebrated her third straight individual championship in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.54. Alexander also swam to glory in the 100 backstroke by winning the event with a time of 55.45, which set a new Division 2 State record.

Junior Kristin Malone of Shorewood won a pair of events, including the her second consecutive title in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 50.28, which sets a Division 2 meet record in the event. She also won the 200 freestyle in record time of 1:48.83.

Milton won its second and third straight championship in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays with times of 1:36.69 and 3:29.26, the later set a new Division 2 record.
