Top-seeded Homestead won its second straight Division 1 championship and University School was crowned Division 2 champion at the State Girls Team Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison Saturday.
The Highlanders (26-0) defeated Neenah the title match for the second straight season, notching a 5-2 victory. They recorded singles victories by Natalie Yang at #2 and Jamie Gebhardt at #3.
Homestead won all three doubles matches. Frankie La Londe and Alyssa Boyer were victorious at the #1 position, and the tandem of Sasha Shapsis and Bridget Brown won at #2. Grace Crowley and Kate Wade were the winners at the #3 doubles flight.
The Rockets two wins in the match were posted by Kiki Risgaard, the Division 1 singles champion, at #1 singles and Alex Van Zeeland at #4 singles.
It was the seventh title for the Highlanders. They had a five-year string of championships from 2008-12.
It is the sixth time Neenah (16-2) has finished runner-up for the team title. In addition to last season, the Rockets placed second in 1983, 1986, 2000 and 2014.

University School, the #2 seed, downed top-seeded Kenosha St. Joseph in the championship match, 6-1.
The Wildcats (16-5) won all the singles flights. Veda Sane, the Division 2 singles champion, won her match at #1. Riley Strauss was victorious at #2; Zoe Francis won at #3; and Afiya Quryshi won at #4.
The University School duo of Grace Watkins and Grace Gidley took the #2 doubles match, and Stephanie Guy and Audrey Treptow won the #3 flight.
The Lancers only win in the match came at the #1 doubles match. The doubles tandem of Kaitlyn Kalinka and Megan Setter, the Division 2 doubles champions, won their match.
It’s the eighth team championship for University School in its 12th tournament appearance. The Wildcats won four straight titles from 2004-07, back-to-back championships in 2011-12 and added another crown in 2014. The Wildcats have also placed runner-up three times, those coming 2008, 2009 and 2013.
Kenosha St. Joseph (15-2) finishes runner-up in its first State Team Tournament appearance.
