Middleton and Edgewood captured team championships at the 20th State Girls Team Tennis Tournament this weekend at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
Led by victories in three of the four singles matches and two of the three doubles flights, Middleton defeated Eau Claire Memorial in the title match 5-2. Kaisey Skibba, Emily Oberwetter and Madison Krigbaum won their matches at the #2, #3 and #4 positions, respectively, for the Cardinals. The doubles team of Bayley Gold and Abby Webber won the #2 match, and Sydney Black and Lauren Coons won their match at #3.
It is the first team title for Middleton in six trips to the State Tournament. Eau Claire Memorial finishes runner-up for the fifth time in its 15 appearances.
Edgewood won three singles matches and the #2 doubles flight to edge two-time defending champion University School in the championship match. Emma Sango won her duel at the #1 slot, and Maddie Molitor and Brita Hovde won at #2 and #4, respectively, for the Crusaders. The doubles tandem of JoJo Munns and Abby Fox clinched the team victory with their triumph at the #2 flight.
It was the Crusaders first team championship, having finished runners-up in both 2004 and 2010. The Wildcats were denied their seventh team championship, having won six in the last nine seasons.
