Neenah and Edgewood captured State Girls Team Tennis championships Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.
Neenah (17-1) edged Brookfield East (19-5) 4-3 to win the Division 1 title. The Rockets won it on the strength of their doubles play, sweeping all three flights.
Kendra Kappes and Christina Price won their #1 doubles flight match 7-6(2), 7-5. The duo of Hannah Dorsey and Andrea Galloway was a winner at the #2 doubles slot 6-2, 6-1; and Amanda Dorsey and Anna Beyer were victors at the #3 doubles position by scores of 6-0, 6-2.
Jordyn Lawatsch won her match at the #2 singles position to provide the margin of victory.
The Rockets won their first team championship after placing runner-up last year. They advanced the title match with a 4-3 win over Arrowhead in the quarterfinals and a 5-2 victory over Waunakee 5-2 in
the semifinals.
The Crusaders (18-1) blanked Altoona (16-5) 7-0 in the final to win the Division 2 team championship. They finished runner-up last year after winning their first team title in 2013.
Emma Sango, who placed fourth at the State Individual Tournament last week, won her match at #1 singles 6-0, 6-1, and Jessica Inman notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory the #2 position. Brita Hovde her match 6-3, 6-0 at the #3 spot, and Reilly Gierhart outlasted her opponent at #4 by scores of 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
In doubles play, the tandem of Abby Fox and Madison Molitor won at #1 by scores of 6-0, 6-3 after placing second in doubles play at the State Individual Tournament last week. JoJo Munns and Sarah Peterson won their match at the #2 slot 6-0, 6-4; and Cosette Smith and Grace Drake downed their opponent 6-0, 6-0.
To advance to the final, the Crusaders shut out Kohler 7-0.
