Four teams in Division 1 advanced to the semifinals with victories in their quarterfinal matches Thursday at State Girls Volleyball Tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
Defending champion Divine Savior Holy Angels (44-5) advances to the semifinals with a 27-25, 25-15, 25-16 victory over D.C. Everest. Annie Ertz led the Dashers’ offense with 20 kills, and Maddie Yoss recorded 40 assists. Regan Stefan and Jenna Rombalski led the Evergreens with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Appleton North (35-9) defeated Greendale (44-4) 25-23, 28-26, 12-25, 25-16. Alyssa Wolslegel led the Lightning attack with 17 kills, and Mikaylah Van Lanen added 11 kills. Lauren Litzau had 17 kills to lead Greendale.
Verona (34-5) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Burlington (42-4) 21-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-11. Kylie Schmaltz led the Wildcats with 20 kills to go with a team-high 14 digs. Victoria Brisack added 10 kills to go with her match-high 41 assists. Quinn Spieker paced the Demons’ offense with a match-high 29 kills.
Oconomowoc (30-3) outlasted Neenah (30-14) 20-25, 25-21, 27-25, 18-25, 15-11. Leah Fenske and Heather Moutvic were a formidable dual at the net with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Fenske also added four block solos. Neenah was led by Hope Werch with 27 kills and 16 digs.
Play resumes Friday with the Division 4 semifinals at 10 a.m. The Division 3 semifinals are scheduled for 1 p.m., and the Division 2 semifinals are set for 4 p.m. Division 1 will cap the day with semifinal action beginning at 7 p.m.
