THE TOURNAMENT:  The 43rd Annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Volleyball State Tournament will take place Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 5-7, at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis. TOURNAMENT INFORMATION: The single-elimination tournament features matches with a best-of-five-sets, rally-scoring format. Eight teams will play for the State title in Division 1, with four teams still in contention for the State crown in Divisions 2, 3 and 4. Below is the schedule and match-ups for the tournament.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES ON FS WISCONSIN:  Watch the broadcast of the WIAA State Girls Volleyball   finals matches Saturday on FS Wisconsin and the FS Wisconsin alternate channel. The Division  4 and the Division 3 title games will be aired live on FS Wisconsin alternative channel at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively. The Division 2 and Division 1 championships finals will be aired on the FS Wisconsin at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively. Check local cable listings for the channel in your area.

PRE-FINAL MATCHES LIVE ON THE WEB:  The Division 1 quarterfinals and semifinals of all four divisions of the WIAA State Girls Volleyball Tournament will be streamed live on the WIAA.TV portal of the NFHS Network on a consumer subscription basis. To purchase a subscription to the live programming, log-on to www.nfhsnetwork.com and click on the “JOIN NOW” button in the upper right corner of the page. Archived streams of the games will be available on demand on the NFHS Network 72 hours after the tournament without requirement of a subscription. 

LAST YEAR:  Divine Savior Holy Angels won the Division 1 title with a hard-fought 26-28, 25-11, 23-25, 25-21, 15-10  victory over Muskego in the championship final. Catholic Memorial swept Tomahawk in three sets 25-11, 25-20, 25-20 to win the Division 2 championship, and Waterloo captured the Division 3 crown by downing Marathon 25-23, 25-20, 28-26 in the title match. Newman Catholic won its second straight Division 4 title with a 25-16, 25-12, 20-25, 25-19 sweep of Southwestern in the championship match.

ABOUT THE DIVISION 1 FIELD:  This will be the eighth appearance for defending champion Divine Savior Holy Angels. In addition to winning the title last year, the Dashers captured the crown in 2001 and finished runner-up in 2012. This season, they defeated Brookfield Central in five sets in the sectional final played at Whitefish Bay to gain their berth in the State quarterfinals. The Dashers are the champions of the Greater Metro Conference title this fall. Neenah returns to the State Tournament field for the third time in the past four seasons and for the 13th time overall. The Rockets have won one title, that came in 1978. They have finished runner-up on four occasions (1977, 1979, 1980 and 1992). They advance to the State quarterfinals this season by defeating Cedarburg in four sets in the final of the Fond du Lac Sectional. The Rockets placed atop the Fox Valley Conference standings during the regular season. D.C. Everest embarks on its ninth appearance at State and its first since a run of three straight ended in 2009. The Evergreens furthest advance in the tournament was to the semifinals in 2007. They acquired their tournament berth this year with a three-set sweep over Marshfield in the Wausau West Sectional. The Evergreens finished third in the Wisconsin Valley Conference standings this season. Burlington qualifies for the State Tournament for the second straight season and for the seventh time overall. The Demons have won two State championships, those coming back-to-back in 2011 and 2012.  Their return to the quarterfinals comes following a three-set sweep over Westosha Central in the Badger Sectional final. They finished first in the Southern Lakes Conference standings this season. Appleton North will be making its second appearance in the last three seasons and its third overall. The Lightnings’ first experience in the State Tournament occurred in 1998, and their most recent appearance in 2013 resulted in a loss in the quarterfinals. They qualify this season following a three-set win over Hortonville in the sectional hosted at Appleton North. The Lightning finished runner-up in the Fox Valley Association standings this season behind tournament qualifier Neenah. Greendale returns to the State Tournament for the first time since qualifying in Class A in 1979, which was during the pool-play era. The Panthers’ most notable outcome of those three previous experiences was a runner-up finish in 1974. They advance to the quarterfinals this year following a three-set victory over Muskego in the Greenfield Sectional final. The Panthers won the Woodland Conference championship this season. Verona is making its second State Tournament appearance. The Wildcats’ first experience resulted in a loss in the quarterfinals in 2011. They earned their berth this year by downing Sun Prairie in three sets in the Waunakee Sectional final. The Wildcats were the champions of the Big Eight Conference this season. Oconomowoc has qualified for the State Tournament for the first time following the Racoons four-set victory over Arrowhead in the final that was played at Arrowhead. They are the champions of the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference this season.

ABOUT THE DIVISION 2 FIELD:  Defending champion Catholic Memorial makes its second consecutive appearance and its eighth overall. The Crusaders have won five championships. They won three consecutive titles from 2009-2011. The Crusaders also won the championship in 2006 and finished runner-up in 2008. They defeated Grafton in three sets in the final of the Sheboygan Falls Sectional to earn the chance to repeat. They are the runners-up in the Classic Eight Conference this season. East Troy returns to the tournament field for the second time in the last three seasons and for the third time overall. The Trojans’ won the Division 2 crown in their last appearance in 2013. Their first State Tournament experience came during the pool-play-format era and failed to place in Class B in 1987. The Trojans notched a four-set win over Platteville in the final of the McFarland Sectional. They placed first in the North Division of the Rock Valley Conference in 2015. Altoona is also making its third appearance at State and its first since 2013. The first time the Railroaders qualified was in Class C back in 1976. They failed to win a set in the pool-play format that year. They earn a trip to the Resch Center this year with their four-set victory over Merrill in the Medford Sectional final. They are the champions of the Western Division of the  Cloverbelt Conference this fall. Notre Dame has qualified for the State Tournament for the first time following the Tritons’ three-set sweep of Winneconne in the Little Chute Sectional final. They are the co-champions in the Fox River Valley Conference with Manitowoc Lincoln this season.

ABOUT THE DIVISION 3 FIELD:  Defending champion Waterloo has qualified for the State Tournament for the second time after making its initial appearance last year.  The Pirates’ course to a second straight title continues following a three-set sweep of Wisconsin Heights in the Brodhead Sectional final. They are the co-champions with Wisconsin Heights in the South Division of the Capitol Conference this season. Regis is back in the tournament after failing to qualify last season, a year after winning the championship in 2013. It’s the sixth time the Lady Ramblers have advanced to State, including consecutive State appearances from 2002-04. Their two runner-up finishes came in Division 4 in 2003 and in Division 3 in 2004. The Lady Ramblers rolled to a three-set victory over Phillips in the Altoona Sectional final. They are the runners-up in the West Division of the Cloverbelt Conference this year. Both Lake Country Lutheran and Lourdes Academy are embarking on their first State Tournament experience. The Lightning earned their initial berth with a five-set victory over Howards Grove in the Sheboygan North Sectional final. They placed first in the Midwest Classic Conference this year. The Knights outlasted Stanley-Boyd in a five-set match to win the final of the Amherst Sectional and advance to the State semifinals. They are the champions in the North Division of the Trailways Conference in 2015.

ABOUT THE DIVISION 4 FIELD: Two-time defending champion Newman Catholic is making its eighth overall appearance and its seventh in the last eight seasons. The Fighting Cardinals’ have had two runner-up finishes, those came in 2009 and 2012. They are the representatives out of the Bowler Sectional, defeating Suring in three sets in the final. They finished first in the South Division of the Marawood Conference this fall. Last year’s runner-up Southwestern is back at the Resch Center for the third time in the last five seasons. In the Wildcats’ first appearance in the State Tournament in 2011, they fell in the semifinals. After finishing in a tie for first with Cuba City in the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League standings, the Wildcats advanced through the Luther Sectional and eliminated Royall in four sets in the final. Clayton makes its third straight appearance and its seventh overall. The Bears have won two State titles, those coming in 1990 and 1996.  In addition, they have finished runner-up twice, once in 2008 and the other in 2013. They return to the Resch Center this season with a three-set sweep over Washburn in the Shell Lake Sectional final. They are the co-champions with Turtle Lake in the Central Lakeland Conference this season. Living Word Lutheran celebrates qualifying for the State Tournament for the first time after the Timberwolves eliminated Catholic Central in four sets in the Beaver Dam Sectional final. They placed fifth in the standings of the Midwest Classic Conference this season.
