Brookfield East swept the Division 1 honors at the 92nd State Boys Individual Tennis Tournament, and Zane Navratil captured his third Division 2 singles championship over the weekend at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.
Senior Felix Corwin of Brookfield East successfully defend his title as the Division 1 singles champion by defeating his teammate David Horneffer, who was seeded third in the tournament, 6-3, 6-3. Corwin improved his season record to 23-0. Sophomore Patrick Krill and junior Henry Termuehlen won the Division 1 doubles title as the fourth seed. The tandem defeated Ben Wait and Eric Stadola of Germantown in the championship match 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(2) to improve their record to 19-4 record his spring.
Navratil, a senior from the Prairie School became the first Division 2 player to win three consecutive individual championships with his 6-1, 6-4 victory over freshman Kai Sane of University School in the singles bracket final. Navratil improved his unblemished record to 31-0 this season. Senior Mike Mirsberger and sophomore Tommy Matoska of Catholic Memorial improved to 23-0 by capturing the Division 2 doubles crown. Mirsberger was half of the pair that finished runner-up a year ago and third in 2012. They defeated the second-seeded tandem of Nate Calawerts and Nick Williams of Notre Dame by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
That State Boys Team Tennis Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, June 13-14 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
