DEADLINE TO ANNOUNCE CANDIDACY FOR BOARD OF CONTROL AND ADVISORY COUNCIL POSITIONS

Administrators at WIAA member senior high schools are reminded that February 25, 2020 is the deadline to announce their candidacy for positions on the Board of Control and High School Advisory Council.

District administrators, high school principals and assistants at these levels who are interested in becoming candidates in their district (Board of Control) or large/medium/small classification (High School Advisory Council) should state their intention via a letter to Joan Gralla ([email protected]) at the WIAA office.  Note:  Candidates must have (1) Department of Public Instruction licensure allowing placement in the eligible set, (2) must be employed full-time or part-time in a qualifying position and (3) cannot be members of the teachers' bargaining unit.

Primary ballots (if needed) will be mailed March 3 with a return date of March 24.  General election ballots will be mailed March 27 with a return date of April 9.  Results will be announced April 22 at the WIAA Annual Meeting.  Ballots will be mailed to the district administrator.

All positions are for a 3-year term beginning with the 2020-21 school year, unless otherwise noted.  Positions open for which candidates must file by February 25 are as follows:

BOARD OF CONTROL

District 3 (west central) for position now held by Dennis Birr of New Lisbon (eligible for re-election).

District 4 (east central) for position now held by Dave Steavpack of Manitowoc Lincoln (eligible for re-election).

Ethnic At-Large for position now held by Eric Coleman of Milwaukee (not eligible for re-election).

Note:  At-large representative of ethnic minority origin as defined in the following:  A person having origins in black racial groups of Africa Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race Asian; Pacific Islander, American Indian or Alaskan Native.

ADVISORY COUNCIL

Large schools for position now held by Brian Schlei of Waukesha North (eligible for re-election), 

Medium schools for positions now held by Craig Olson of Hayward (eligible for re-election) and Terrence Slack of Wisconsin Dells (eligible for re-election).

Small schools for positions now held by Mark Gruen of Royall (not eligible for re-election) and Jim Erickson of Webster, this will be for a 1-year term due to the retirement of Mr. Erickson.

Non-Public School At-Large for position now held by Mark Gobler of Regis.  This will be for a 1-year term due to the retirement of Mr. Gobler.

Ethnic At-Large for position now held by Mark Holzman of Manitowoc Public Schools (not eligible for re-election).
