Teams & Individuals in Two Divisions Win State Girls Golf Titles

MADISON, Wis – Team champions and individual medalists were crowned at the State Girls Golf Championships held Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison, Wis.

Divine Savior Holy Angels won the Division 1 State Golf Team Championship for the second straight season with a four-player, 36-hole total of 637. Prescott, the Division 2 champion the past three seasons, moved up a division and placed second with a team score of 666.

Sophomore McKenna Nelson of Beaver Dam worked overtime to capture the Division 1 individual crown after tying junior Payton Haugen of Brookfield East after 36 holes with a 6-under-par score of 138. Nelson won a one-hole playoff by shooting par on Hole #1 to edge Haugen, who bogied the hole.

The two scores tied for the lowest score for 36 holes in State Meet history. Four-time Division 2 champion Casey Danielson of Osceola also fired a 138 to win the title in 2010.

Edgewood won the Division 2 team title, finishing with a score of 756 on 36 holes. It’s the 16th State championship for the Crusaders, which leads the entire membership. Spooner was runner-up, four strokes back at 760.

Junior Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound successfully defended the Division 2 individual title she won last year. She shot a 9-over-par 153. In addition to her two titles, she finished runner-up in 2022. Junior Addison Kofal of St. Croix Central was runner-up with a 16-over-par score of 160.
