Eight champions were crowned at the State Track and Field Championships in La Crosse, Wis., Saturday, including four-time defending Division 3 girls champion Edgar and three-time defending boys Division 1 champion Brookfield East.
The Spartans scored 51 points, one more than runner-up Green Bay Preble. The outcome came down to the 1,600-meter relay, the final event of the meet. Kenosha Tremper won the Division 1 girls championship with 48 points, two more than runner-up Waukesha West.
In Division 2, Shorewood won the boys title with 44 points. Catholic Memorial was runner-up with 37 points. East Troy won the girls title with 57 points. Dodgeville/Mineral Point placing second with 36 points. St. Mary’s Springs won the boys Division 3 crown with 48 points, two ahead of Melrose-Mindoro, and Edgar won its fourth straight championship with 70 points, well ahead of second-place St. Mary’s Springs with 36.5 points.
In the wheelchair events, Fort Atkinson was the girls champion with 38 points, and Cedarburg won the boys competition with 40 points.
The meet featured 16 State records.
