Kaukauna (29-2) won the Division 1 championship with a 3-1 win over Wilmot Union (22-5) in the State Tournament final Saturday evening at Goodman Diamond in Madison, Wis.

After Kalyssa Koehn gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double, the Galloping Ghosts’ Sidney Miller ripped a triple and scored in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game. They took the lead for good in the third inning on a Taylor Kuske double to drive in Megan Huss. Kaukauna added an insurance run in the fifth on a wild pitch. 

Miller also had a double in the game to be the only player with multiple hits in the game for Kaukauna, and Kuske drove in two of the three runs. Haley Hestekin was brilliant in the circle and was credited with the victory, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out 11.

Koehn and Montana Platts each had two hits to lead the Panthers’ offense. Sarah Hutchinson suffered the loss despite pitching well, surrendering three runs on six hits while striking out two.

It’s Kaukauna’s second State championship. The Galloping Ghosts also won the title in 2010. Wilmot Union finished runner-up for the fifth time in their nine State appearances.

Rice Lake (23-7) won its second State championship with a 13-9 extra-inning triumph over Turner (24-3) in the Division 2 championship game at Goodman Diamond Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors scored four times in the eighth inning after Turner battled backto tie the game at 9-9 with three runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh. Each team collected 13 hits and committed four errors in the game.

Johannah Hrdlicka had three hits including a home run and drove in four, and Brooke Scheuer had three hits and a pair of RBIs to lead the Warriors’ hitting attack. Sam Solley and Jacky Robarge each contributed with two hits and a pair of RBIs. Hrdlicka was the winning pitcher, striking out seven and yielding five earned runs on 13 hits. Emily Fell pitched the eighth inning in relief, striking out one without allowing a hit.

Mackenna Fobes led Turner at the plate with three hits and a pair of doubles to drive in three runs. Carson Nitz chipped in with two hits and two RBIs, and Mya Hill-Brown also had a pair of hits and an RBI. Kailyn Packard went the distance in the circle for Trojans and was charged with the loss, giving up seven earned runs and 13 hits while striking out eight.

The Warriors second title comes in their sixth State appearance. The first of their two titles came in 2008. The Trojans finished runner-up for the second time in their four appearances.

Laconia (25-0) won its third straight State championship with a 5-0 shutout over Weyauwega-Fremont (22-10) in the Division 3 final.

Kayla Schwebke was the winning pitcher for the third time in title games, also earning victories in the 2015 and 2016 championship games. She allowed just three hits while striking 10. She did not allow a runner beyond second base. Caitlin Tipton belted a triple and a double, and Mickayla Johnson also had two hits for the Spartans.

Cadyn Ehrenberg had two of the Indians’ three hits in the game. Kiley Akey was charged with the loss. She threw four innings, giving up three runs and five hits with four strikeouts. Ehrenberg gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in relief.

The Indians finished runner-up for the second time in their third State Tournament appearance.

Juda/Albany (27-2) edged Pacelli (20-9) to win its first State championship with a 2-1 win in the Division 4 final Saturday afternoon at Goodman Diamond in Madison, Wis. 

Alexis Goecks tripled and scored in the third inning to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead, and Nickole Becker doubled, which eventually led to a run in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 2-0. Goecks and Becker each had a pair of hits to lead the offense. Becker was also credited with the win in the circle, surrendering just an unearned run on four hits with eight strikeouts.

Pacelli had opportunities late in the game to tie or take the lead, but could not convert baserunners into runs. Brook Nagorski pitched well in defeat, surrendering one earned run on seven hits with eight strikeouts.

The Cardinals finished runner-up for the second time in their seven State Tournament appearances.

McDonell Catholic (22-4) won its second State championship with an 8-2 victory over Blair-Taylor (24-4) in the first-ever Division 5 title game Saturday morning at Goodman Diamond in Madison, Wis.

The Macks trailed 3-0 until the fourth inning when they plated a pair of runs, and then added three runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Andrea Hiess led the Macks’ hitting attack with three hits, three runs scored and an RBI. Megan Baier was credited with the complete-game victory. She struck out three while yielding three runs on six hits.

Blair-Taylor was led on offense by McKenna Nehring with two hits and Lauren Steien with a double and an RBI. Steien was charged with the loss despite allowing only one earned run as the Wildcats were hindered by eight errors in the game.

Blair-Taylor finished runner-up in its first State Tournament appearance. The Macks also won the championship in Division 4 in 2008.
