Three-time defending Division 1 champion Germantown (27-0) remained undefeated and will attempt to become only the second program in State Tournament history to win four consecutive titles following its 82-54 win over Madison East in its semifinal.
The Warhawks led from the opening basket and built a double-digit lead in the first quarter. They opened the second quarter with a 14-2 run to open a 25-point bulge and erase any doubt about the games’ outcome. The Purgolders were able to cut their deficit to 20 in the third quarter but could get no closer.
Germantown featured a balanced scoring attack with five players in double figures. Dwayne Lawhorn Jr. led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. Kyle Theis scored 13 points, and Juwan McCloud and Maxwell Keefe each posted 12 points with Conner Edmonds chipping in with 11.
Madison East was led on offense by De’Shawn Burks with 12 points. Keshawn Justice and D’Angelo Millon both added 11 points.
The Warhawks shot a 50 percent clip for the game, including 7-of-15 from beyond the arc. They also had a decided advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Purgolders 39-26.
Stevens Point (26-1) advances to the Division 1 championship game for the first time since 1994 with a convincing 63-39 triumph over West Allis Central (14-13) in the semifinals.
The game was virtually decided in the first half when the Panthers outscored the Bulldogs 21-9 in the second quarter. Stevens Point continued to apply the pressure in the third quarter to stretch the lead to as many as 27 points by the end of the period at 51-24. The Bulldogs could get no closer than 23 points throughout the final period.
Much of the Panthers’ scoring arsenal came from beyond the arc, hitting a State Tournament record 11 three-pointers in the game on 20 attempts. Stevens Point also dominated the glass, possessing a 29-17 edge in rebounding.
Trevor Anderson led the Panthers with 20 points with Sam Hauser adding 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Brandon Key was the only Bulldog in double figures with 14 points.
The Panthers are seeking their fourth State championship. They won the Class A title in 1994 and championships in 1926 and 1954 when there was only one class offered.
