Monona Grove Wins Division 2 Swim Title

The Monona Grove boys swimming team won their first state title in program history with a total score of 258 points. This was 49 points ahead of second place Edgewood Sacred Heart.

Monona Grove was led by seniors Tyler Roehr and Mitchell Paull. Roehr won the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:53.35 and placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.54. He also contributed to the winning 200 medley and freestyle relays. His anchor split of 20.67 on the 200 freestyle relay was the fastest 50 freestyle split of the meet. Paull came out of the first heat to place third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.95 and also placed third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.10. He was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay as well as the second place 400 freestyle relay.

Edgewood was led by junior Jack McLaughlin who scored 29 individual points. McLaughlin placed third in the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.09 and sixth in the 100 freestyle in a time of 48.87. He was also a part of Edgewood's fourth place 200 medley relay and their sixth place 200 freestyle relay. Sophomore diver Milo Lingard also finshed third for Edgewood with a score of 358.05.

Individually the top performer was senior Al Nennig of Grafton, who was the night's only two-time winner, placing first in the 50 free for the second straight year in a time of 21.08 and winning the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.65.
