THE CHAMPIONSHIPS:  The 72nd Annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual Wrestling Championship Tournament will be held Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 26-28, at the Kohl Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. 

TICKET INFORMATION:  Ticket prices per tournament session are $8. Tickets are available on-line on the WIAA website until two hours prior to any respective session with the printing of the ticket by the purchaser. Tickets are also available at the Kohl Center during the tournament. 

THE SCHEDULE:  Below is the schedule of competition for the individual tournament. All weight classes will be wrestled in consecutive order through the classes on a “next available mat” basis within the mat assignments. 

Thursday, Feb. 26 
Session 1: 
Division 1 Preliminaries - 3 p.m. 
Division 1 Quarterfinals - approximately 5:15 p.m. 
Divisions 2 & 3 Preliminaries - approximately 7:15 p.m. 

Friday, Feb. 27 
Session 2: 
Division 1 Consolations - 10 a.m. 
Divisions 2 & 3 Quarterfinals - approximately 11:15 a.m. 
Division 1 Consolation Semifinals - approximately 1:45 p.m. 
Divisions 2 & 3 Consolation Semifinals - approx. 2:45 p.m. 

Session 3: 
Division 1 Semifinals at 7 p.m. on mats 1 & 2 
Division 2 Semifinals at 7 p.m. on mats 3 & 4 
Division 3 Semifinals at 7 p.m. on mats 5 & 6 

Saturday, Feb. 28
Session 4: 
Division 1 Consolation Wrestlebacks at 11 a.m. on mats 1 & 2 
Division 2 Consolation Wrestlebacks at 11 a.m. on mats 3 & 4 
Division 3 Consolation Wrestlebacks at 11 a.m. on mats 5 & 6 

Third-place and fifth-place matches will run concurrently by weight class within divisions after all consolation matches are completed.

Session 5: 
Division 1 Championships at 6 p.m. on mat 1 
Division 2 Championships at 6 p.m. on mat 2 
Division 3 Championships at 6 p.m. on mat 3

FINALS ON FS WISCONSIN:  The championship finals for all divisions will be aired tape-delayed on FS Wisconsin. The Division 1 title bouts are scheduled to air March 16 at 7 p.m. The Division 2 championship match is scheduled to air March 21 at 9 p.m. The Division 3 championship match will be shown on March 29 at 3 p.m. Please check local cable listings for the FS Wisconsin channel in your area. 

2015 TOURNAMENT BY THE NUMBERS: There will be champions crowned in 14 weight classes in three divisions. Wrestlers who finished first or second in each weight class at last weekend’s eight Division 1 sectionals qualified for the State Tournament. The top three finishers in each weight class at the four Divisions 2 and 3 sectionals qualify for the tourney. There are 224 qualifiers for the championships in Division 1 and 168 in both Divisions 2 and 3. There are 220 programs represented at this year’s individual championships, including 88 from Division 1, and 65 in Division 2 and 67 in Division 3. 

MORE NUMBERS: Kaukauna has qualified the most wrestlers to the field in Division 1 with eight. Cedarburg, Elkhorn, Hudson, Oak Creek and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln are next in line with seven. Ellsworth and Sparta have the distinction of having qualified the most individuals in Division 2 with eight. Wisconsin Lutheran has seven qualifiers, and Amery, Evansville/Albany and Freedom each have six. In Division 3, Stratford claims the most qualifiers this season with eight. Coleman, Fennimore and Random Lake are next with seven qualifiers. There are 20 former champions in the tournament field this year and 16 seeking to defend the title they won last year. 

TOTAL TITLES BY SCHOOLS: Mineral Point has produced the most individual championships with 50. Stoughton is next with 43, and then Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln with 42. Milwaukee South wrestlers have won 39 individual titles. Others with significant totals are Luxemburg-Casco with 35, Athens with 32 and Coleman with 29. 

TRACKING THE CHAMPIONS–DIVISION 1: In Division 1, seven former champions, including five of last year’s champions, return to the tournament in pursuit of another crown. Junior Tyus White of West Allis Central moves up a weight class to 113 pounds after winning the title at 106 last season. He has compiled a 35-6 mark this season. Senior Nolan Shea of Milton looks to regain the glory he experienced in winning the 106-pound  weight class two years ago. He qualifies at 120 this year riding a 37-0 record.  Junior Josh Bird of Burlington capped his freshman season in 2013 with a State title at 120. He moved up two classes to 132 last season and finished runner-up. This season, he returns to the 132 bracket with a 42-1 record. Senior Robert Lee of Kaukauna moves up to 138 seeking his third State title. He won the 113 championship in 2012, finished runner-up at 120 in 2013 and won  the 132-pound class last year. Heading into the State Tournament, he has compiled a 39-1 record. Lee’s third championship won’t come without a challenge from, among others, junior Collin Kraus of Stoughton, who moves up two classes after winning the 126-pound division last year. Kraus has 47 victories in his 51 bouts so far this season. Senior Joe Ziolkowski of D.C. Everest is the returning champion at 145. He is undefeated at 41-0 this season in defense of the crown. Junior Beau Breske of Hartford boasts a 47-0 record this season after winning gold last season at 170 with a 52-0 record.  He also won the 152 title in 2013 with a 50-2 record. He’s returns to 170 this season to defend his title and become a three-time champion. 

TRACKING THE CHAMPIONS–DIVISION 2:  The Division 2 field includes five former champions and one multiple champion. Junior Paul Bianchi of Two Rivers qualifies at 113 with a 48-0 record on the heels of the championship he won at 106 last season. Junior Hunter Marko of Amery seeks his third State title. He moves up two weight classes to contend for the title at 126 after claiming the crown at 113 last season and winning the championship at 106 in 2013. He has compiled a 37-1 mark this season. His path to a third title will need to go through senior Tepra Wright of Wisconsin Lutheran, who is the defending champion at 120. He, like Marko, has lost only once this season, possessing a 42-1 record. Senior Chris Yauch of Two Rivers is the defending champion back attempting to retain his title at 138. He enters action this week with a 46-3 mark. Senior Dewey Krueger of Oconto Falls was the 2013 champion at 132. He moved up to 145 last season and finished runner-up. This season, he qualifies at 152 with a 39-0 record in an attempt to return to champion status. 

TRACKING THE CHAMPIONS–DIVISION 3:  There are nine former champions and three multi-champions in the Division 3 field this year. Junior Riley Lull of Fennimore moves up a weight class to 113 after wrestling to the title at 106 for Riverdale a year ago. He enters the first round of State competition with a 44-2 record this season. Two-time champion Hunter Dischler, a junior from Weston/Ithaca, moves up to 120 this season. He won the 106 title in 2013 and the 113 championship last season. Dischler seeks a third straight title with a 41-3 tally this year. Senior Kal Gerber of Cameron is also attempting to win a third championship. He was the 113 champion in 2013 and the 120 victor last year. He moves up a class to 126 this season where he has posted a 42-0 mark. Senior Cole Martin of Lancaster is another wrestler in on a quest to win a third title. He won gold at 120 in 2013 and again at 132 last season. Martin moves up to 145 this season and has compiled a 42-1 record. Sophomore Micah Johnson of Boyceville moves up two weight classes to 152 after winning the 138 title as a freshman last year. He enters action with a 15-2 record. Senior Jared Roen of Riverdale enters the State Tournament with a 39-3 record at the 160-pound weight class. He moves up a couple of weights to challenge for the title after capturing the crown at 145 last season. A pair of former champions headline the 170-pound division. Senior Luke Nowak of Iowa-Grant/Highland moves up from 160 to compete for the title with a 43-4 record this season. In addition, senior Devin Lemanski of Edgar seeks to get back to the top of the award stand this season. He won the title at 126 in 2013 and placed sixth moving up three weights to 145 last season. He moves up another three classes this season and has yet to experience defeat with a 38-0 mark. Senior David Chadd of Lancaster qualifies at 195 this year following a championship at 182 last year. He possesses a 39-0 record in his pursuit of a second gold medal.

UNBLEMISHED MARKS:  There are 27 wrestlers who enter the State Tournament this weekend undefeated, including 16 in Division 1, six in Division 2 and  five in Division 3. The 16 Division 1 wrestlers entering the State Tournament with perfect records are senior Moziah Clark of Madison (38-0) and junior Zack Szohr of Germantown (28-0) at 106; senior Airk Furseth of Janesville Craig (41-0) at 113; senior Nolan Shea of Milton (37-0) and sophomore Jaden Van Maanen of La Crosse Central (44-0) at 120; senior Tere White of West Allis Central (40-0) at 126; seniors Joe Ziolkowski of D.C. Everest (41-0) and Max Fisher of Waterford (25-0) at 145; senior Jason Ipsarides of Cedarburg (47-0) at 152; senior Jordan Gundrum of West Bend East (46-0) and freshman Jared Krattiger of Waterford (39-0) at 160; junior Beau Breske of Hartford (47-0) at 170; junior Mason Stokke of Menomonie (40-0) and seniors Adam Braley of Union Grove (21-0) and Gage Zupke of Homestead (26-0) at 195; and senior Alec Ingold of Bay Port (37-0) at 220. In Division 2, those still undefeated heading into the State Tournament are junior Paul Bianchi of Two Rivers (48-0) and sophomore Jaden Winchel of Sparta (45-0) at 132, senior Dewey Krueger of Oconto Falls (39-0) at 152, junior Kaleb Kaminski of Tomahawk (47-0) at 182, and seniors Cole LaLiberty of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm (27-0) and Logan Maurer of Brodhead/Juda (46-0) at 285. Among the ranks of the unbeaten in Division 3 are senior Kal Gerber of Cameron (42-0) and sophomore Mason Kauffman of Stratford (46-0) at 126, junior Wilder Wichman of Johnson Creek (40-0) at 138, senior Devin Lemanski of Edgar (38-0) at 170,  and senior David Chadd of Lancaster (39-0) at 195. There are an additional 38 wrestlers in the meet that have suffered defeat only once this season.
