Q: The track wrestling “official weigh in report” has a column titled EWC (eligible wt. class) that indicates what actual weight class that wrestler would be able to compete in at that event. Should the meet official be concerned about that column, or is that the responsibility of the coaches to make sure the athletes are eligible according to the 1.5% wt. loss / week?
A: Like in the past, the only column to be concerned about is the column that says “actual weight.” Unless they weighed in at a higher weight class, if their actual weight qualifies the wrestler, then he/she is good to wrestle. The coaches are responsible to police the EWC of the contestants – NOT THE OFFICIAL.
