Barneveld (27-1) won its second straight championship in Division 5 with a 59-43 win over Assumption (25-4) in the final Saturday morning.
It was the third straight season the two teams have met in the final. Assumption claimed the title with a 39-35 win over the Golden Eagles in 2013, and Barneveld captured the crown in 2014 by a 38-34 margin.
The key stretch in the game came during a 9:21 span in the first and second quarters when the Royals were held scoreless, providing the opportunity for the Golden Eagles to build a 10-point cushion. The State title can also be attributed to the Golden Eagles’ shooting efficiency. They converted on 59.4 percent of their shots from the field, which set a Division 5 record.
Hannah Whitish led all scorers with 23 point for Barneveld. She set the Division 5 record for most points in a tournament with 48 in two games. Maggie Oimoen was also a key factor in the post, scoring a career personal-best 17 points and setting a Division 5 record for shooting accuracy by making all eight of her field goals.
The Royals were led in scoring by Olivia Skibba and Macie Zurfluh, each tossed in 12 points.
