WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. – A pair of team champions were crowned at the 50th Annual State Gymnastics Championships Friday at the Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Field House.
Hartford Union won its first gymnastics team championship in program history, winning the Division 1 title with a four-event score of 144.75. The Wilmot Union/Union Grove/Williams Bay Co-op finished runner-up with a four-event score of 142.116, and Nicolet was third with a score of 141.7.
The Orioles recorded the top team scores in three of the four events, including the balance beam, floor exercise, and uneven parallel bars. Nicolet was the top team on the vault.
In Division 2, Mount Horeb improved on last year’s runner-up finish to capture the championship with with a score of 143.216 in the combined four events. The Vikings win the title for the first time since 2015 and for the sixth time overall.
Former four-time defending champion Whitefish Bay placed second in the team competition with a score of 142.666, and Elkhorn was third with a score of 135.601.
The Vikings recorded the best team scores in the balance beam and floor exercise. The Blue Dukes posted the best team scores in the vault and the uneven bars.
The 50th State Gymnastics Championship resume Saturday with the individual championships competition. The competitor March-in will begin at 10:20 a.m. with the competition to commence at approximately 10:30 a.m. at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.
