Krueger Wins Four Gymnastics Individual Titles

The 2018 State Gymnastics Championships concluded with the crowning of individual champions in four events and an all-around competition in two divisions Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.

Senior Samantha Krueger of River Falls highlighted the Division 2 individual competition. She won three events and the all-around, compiling a four-event score of 36.950. She placed third in the all-around last season and fourth in 2016. 

Krueger won the floor exercise for the third straight year, receiving a 9.567 on her routine. She becomes the first gymnast to accomplish the feat in that event since 2001-03. Junior Emma Fox of Whitefish Bay placed second with a score of 9.283.

Krueger was the champion on the balance beam with a score of 9.45 after placing second last season and fourth in 2016. Senior Izzy Wickus of Port Washington finished second with a score of 9.25.

Krueger was credited with a score of 9.467 to place atop the individual standings in the vault. It’s her second championship in the event. Prior to finishing runner-up last year, she won the title in 2016.

Junior Krystal Nelson of the Franklin Co-op was crowned the champion on the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.567. Sophomore Taylor Raskin of Homestead finished second with a score of 9.533 on the apparatus.

In Division 1, junior Alexis Woida of Arrowhead won the all-around competition with a score of 37.767. 
She placed 15th in the all-around last season. Senior Lexi Romero of Brookfield East/Central, who was third in the all-around in 2017, finished runner-up with a score of 37.417.

Romero shares the title of champion in the floor exercise with senior Allayah Lane of Sun Prairie. They both earned gold medals with scores of 9.4. 

There was also a tie for the individual championship in the vault competition. Senior Tyra Turner of Madison East/La Follette, who placed seventh last season, and junior Karina Sabol of Middleton, each scored a 9.6 to earn the title.

Junior Georgia Williams of the Waukesha Co-op was the champion on the balance beam. She scored a 9.517 to capture the crown. Junior Mackenzie Pendleton of the Mukwonago Co-op was runner-up in the event with a score of 9.467.

Freshman Addie Gallun of Whitefish Bay had an immediate impact in her first season by winning the uneven bars with a score of 9.40 and placing second in the all-around with a score of 37.417. Senior Grace Braatz of Menomonie finished second in the uneven bars with a 9.083.
