The 46th Annual State Gymnastics Championships concluded with the crowning of individual champions in two divisions Saturday at Wisconsin Lincoln High School.
Junior Molly O’Boyle of Kenosha Bradford/Indian Trail/Tremper/Westosha Central was the all-around champion and winner in two events. She compiled an all-around score of 38.167, ahead of runner-up Caitlin Locante, a junior from Brookfield East/Central , who scored a 37.350.
O’Boyle scored a 9.90 in the vault to win the event, and she captured the crown in the floor exercise by scoring a 9.517.
Senior Amanda Pennow of Brookfield East/Central returned to championship form in the uneven bars after tying for the title in 2014 and placing 12th a year ago. She scored a 9.467 to outperform the rest of the field. Senior Taryn Sherman of Arrowhead, who was last year’s uneven bars champion, won the balance beam with a score of 9.45.
In Division 2, Aly Yurkowitz of Whitefish Bay was the all-around champion with a multi-event score of 37.150. She placed second in the balance beam, floor exercise and the uneven bars with a third-place finish in the vault. It was Yurkowitz's second title, also winning the floor exercise in 2014.Senior Jessee Lerud of Grantsburg/Luck/Unity finished second with a score of 36.683.
Lerud won the uneven bars with a score of 9.350 to capture the second title of her career. She was the balance beam champion in 2014.
Sophomore Sam Krueger of River Falls was a two-time champion. She was the victor in the floor exercise with a score of 9.55 and also in the vault with a score of 9.383. Junior Shelby Rust of Ashland claimed the title in the balance beam with a score of 9.433.
