Yurkowitz, Weyker Win Multiple Gymnastics Titles.

The 2017 State Gymnastics Championships concluded with the crowning of individual champions Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids..

In Division 1, senior Samantha Weyker of Kenosha Bradford/Indian Trail/Tremper/Westosha Central won the all-around competition with a score of 37.967. Senior teammate Molly O’Boyle, who won the all-around in 2016, finished runner-up with a score of 37.833.

Weyker also received the gold for her performance on the vault, sharing the medal with senior Abigail Missiaen of Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek/Whitnall, who posted an identical score of 9.8.

Senior Madeline Pflasterer-Jennerjohn of Middleton edged Weyker to win the uneven bars with a score of 9.3. Weyker was runner-up, scoring a 9.283.

Senior Caitlin Locante of Brookfield East/Central placed first in the floor exercise with a score of 9.75 after finishing third a year ago. Her teammate, junior Lexi Romero, was runner-up with a score of 9.583.

Freshman Lexi Penney turned in a championship performance in her first State meet, winning the balance beam with a score of 9.55. Another freshman, Erin Wagner of Waukesha West/North/South/Catholic Memorial was a runner-up with a score of 9.517.

Senior Aly Yurkowitz of Whitefish Bay won the all-around competition for the second consecutive season. She earned the title with a score of 37.917. Junior Sam Krueger of River Falls was runner-up with a score of 37.450 after placing fourth last year and fifth in 2015.

Yurkowitz won three of the four individual events. Her title on the balance beam was achieved with a score of 9.367 after placing second in the event last year. Her championship on the uneven bars came virtue her 9.433 scored in the event after placing runner-up last season. Yurkowitz’s 9.483 score in the vaulting competition placed her atop the awards podium as well.

Krueger was the only competitor keeping Yurkowitz from attaining a complete sweep of all the event titles by winning the floor exercise for the second consecutive season, scoring a 9.833. She was second to Yurkowitz in both the vault and balance beam competitions with scores of 9.367 and 9.2, respectively. Yurkowitz was runner-up to Krueger in the floor exercise with a score of 9.633.
