State Boys & Girls Lacrosse Championships Preview

THE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The first Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys and Girls State Lacrosse championship final will be held Saturday, June 8, at Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium at Ashley Field in Sun Prairie, Wis. The girls championship game will  begin at 1 p.m. with the boys title game to follow.

PURCHASE TICKETS:  Ticket prices for the event are $11 for the session, which includes the boys and girls championship games. Children 2-years old and under are admitted for free. Tickets are to be purchased on-line on the WIAA website through GoFan, the WIAA ticketing partner, at:  https://gofan.co/app/school/WIAAWI?activity=Lacrosse.

CHAMPIONSHIPS SCHEDULE AND PAIRINGS:  
Girls Championship
Kettle Moraine/Badger (20-2) vs. University School of Milwaukee (18-4) - 1 p.m.
Boys Championship
Middleton (18-3) vs. Neenah (14-5)*- approximately 3:15 p.m.*
*Following conclusion of girls championship game ceremony

LIVE STREAMED ON THE WEB:  The lacrosse championship games will be streamed live on the WIAA.TV portal of the NFHS Network on a consumer subscription basis. To purchase a subscription to the live programming, log-on to www.wiaa.tv or www.nfhsnetwork.com and click on the “Subscribe” graphic. Archived streams of the games will be available on demand on the NFHS Network 72 hours after the tournament without requirement of a subscription.

FACTS & FIGURES: There were 40 boys programs and 36 girls programs sponsoring lacrosse in its first season as a WIAA-sanctioned sport.

THE GIRLS MATCH-UP:  Kettle Moraine/Badger and University School of Milwaukee are the inaugural girls lacrosse championship game participants. The Kettle Moraine/Badger Co-op was the champion of the Classic Eight Conference this spring. The Lasers’ received the top seed in their sectional, and their journey included wins over the Wauwatosa East Co-op (24-2), Kenosha Indian Trail Co-op (15-5), Divine Savior Holy Angels (16-9) and Muskego (17-9) in the sectional final. University School is the champion in the Midwest Classic Conference. The Wildcats were the top seed in their sectional. They posted victories over Pulaski (18-1), Kimberly (20-3), Notre Dame (23-8) and Arrowhead (15-10) in the sectional final. The two teams squared off earlier in the season, which was won by the Lasers, 15-10.

THE BOYS MATCH-UP:  Middleton and Neenah are the first participants in the boys State final. Middleton was the champion of the Big Eight Conference this season. The Cardinals were the #3 seed in their sectional bracket. Their path to the State final included tourney wins over Franklin (16-4), Marquette (16-4), Kettle Moraine/St. John’s Northwestern Co-op (11-10) and Waunakee (14-7) in the sectional final. Neenah finished second in the Fox Valley Association standings this year. The Rockets were issued the top seed in their sectional and proceeded to beat Notre Dame/Ashwaubenon/Kaukauna Co-op (26-5), Kimberly (10-8), Appleton East Co-op (17-4) and Hudson (11-6) in the sectional final played at Neenah. Although the two didn’t match-up during the regular season there were several common opponents. Middleton compiled a 9-2 record versus common opponents, and Neenah was 10-3.
